I wanted to produce a book spine poem using reference books – not easy, when a lot of my reference books have titles like “Dictionary of Modern Greek” or “Eymology Index”, and so on. I admit that I ended up using two fiction titles! Here is the result. Enjoy!
Language Myths
Empires of the word,
Fall of kings,
Lost languages; butterflies.
Legacies;
The story of writing.
With thanks to the authors Laurie Bauer & Peter Trudgill, Nicholas Ostler, David & Stella Gemmell, Andrew Robinson, Kate Davies, Alison Sinclair, Andrew Robinson. And of course special thanks to Stan Carey, where I got the idea in the first place!
Lovely! I especially like the inclusion of Butterflies. It rubs off Legacies very nicely both in sound and meaning.
Thanks, Stan! It was worth raiding the children’s bookshelves for it, I think!
Love it! What a brilliant idea. Off I go to the library…
